God's Agenda

A client of mine called up last night and gave me her Christmas Dirge. It goes something like this:

"OH I'm so tired of struggling and fighting, why can't God ease up on me? I'm a good spiritual person that is compassionate and helps others whenever she can. I have forgiven a lot of my past and really done the emotional release work. I don't want much, just some peace and quiet, a few bucks in the bank and getting what I want for a change. Is that too much to ask?"

I gently reminded her of a few facts. I said do you remember who you were when you started this journey and came to me looking for help? How fearful and uncertain you were? And you self esteem, remember how you used to compare yourself to the underbelly of a slug? Now tell me, what did it take for you to go from there to where you are today? Did God just wave a magic wand and all was better or did you do this all by yourself?

You know the answer, she said. It took work, commitment, integrity and persistence. I earned every step. Every breakthrough. Every awareness. Even though I had help from others, ultimately I had to do it myself for myself.

Now let me ask you some more questions, I said. Are you finished? And how will you know when you are? I suppose when I can handle any situation that comes up, then I'll Know, she said.

Then would you say that God's agenda for you is for you to be all you can be and be capable of handling whatever is necessary for you to have all there is? Well then, have a nice holiday season and enjoy the rest of your journey.
